IC Information
CHARACTER NAME; Conrad Verner
AGE; IDK LIKE 30. Yeah, let's go with that.
CANON; Mass Effect Series
CANON POINT; Post Mass Effect 2 but before the events of Mass Effect 3
FAMILY TYPES; Just... all of them.

APPEARANCE; Conrad is a human and looks just about like a human male in his thirties would. He has light blond hair that's in the style of the ever fashionable buzzcut. He also has a bit of goatee going on. He's that weird in-between height where he's taller than most girls but still shorter than most guys which is around 5'7” or so. He has a lithe body build. Conrad isn't exactly muscular but he's also not entirely scrawny either.

PERSONALITY; Conrad Verner is introduced to the Mass Effect Series simply as "The Fan." What exactly is he a fan of? Oh, well, he's glad you asked. That would Commander Shepard, the captain of the Normandy and, eventually, the Normandy 2. It all started with a simple newscast about Shepard's courageous mission on Eden Prime. That broadcast made him realize that Shepard was everything he'd ever wanted to be: a hero.

Conrad Verner had always dreamed of being a galactic savior from the time he was little. His parents were always very supportive of his aspirations and told him that he'd go far. He just wanted to help people and make the galaxy a better place. Unfortunately, life had different plans for him. He never did achieve his dream of being a "hero" and instead he focused on academia. He was good at it, after all. He was really good at it and got a doctorate in xenotechnology and dark matter integration. It's not something really brags about. Why should he? He did the work and earned his degree but it's not as amazing as, say, what Commander Shepard does every day.

He began to follow the amazing story of Commander Shepard with gusto. At least, that's what his extranet friends believed from his enthused talking of this Shepard person. In reality? He was unconsciously sinking into an obsession over Commander Shepard. Imagine his elation when he actually got a chance to meet the Commander on the Citadel. Well, he had stalked followed Shepard's patterns of arrival on the Citadel for the sole reason of conveniently running into the Commander but that's besides the point. He didn't think it would actually work. The Citadel is huge, after all, and that the Commander walked right by the staircase he had waited for days by... it was obviously fate! That was what Conrad told himself and his friends about the chance meeting, anyway.

It started off simple. He just wanted an autograph. He wanted something tangible to prove to his extranet friends that he had met Shepard; that he wasn't just another raving fanboy making up tall tales about meeting the "celebrity" he so idolized. Soon after getting the signature and showing if off though he realized it wasn't enough. Next, he decided to take it up a step and ask for a picture. There seemed to be some reluctance. Oh, no, had he ruined his chance? Thankfully, the Commander agreed and he got the photo he was after. Shepard left again but there was still something missing. Before he'd see the Commander again, he would realize what it was. He wanted to work alongside Shepard. He wanted to be on the front lines. It is why he asked for something. He asked to be a Spectre. Unfortunately, he was rejected. Shepard let him down gently but it was still one rejection too many. It was the rejection that pushed him over the edge.

See, Conrad Verner always tries his best to be a good man. The keywords there being "he tries." Like said before, he just wants to help people. He does his utmost to do the right thing. Despite his best efforts, Conrad usually ends up trying just a bit too hard. When he tries too hard, he tends to come across as over-eager and that can make people feel a bit uncomfortable. Of course, that's never his intention. He just gets so excited about things! It was this over-enthusiasm that was why he was rejected from the the Alliance Navy in the first place. It was why he made connections better with people on the extranet than in real life. Online people can't see the way you slightly bounce in excitement or the huge grin on your face. It was why, when he met Commander Shepard, he made up a fictional wife. After all, if he had a wife, he wouldn't come across as just another creepy obsessed fan, right?

He saw hope in Commander Shepard. Yet, that hope was extinguished with the "no" the Commander gave to his request of becoming a Spectre. It finally began to sink in that he'd never be a hero. He was just this geeky guy that would never be out among the stars saving people. He grew tired of his life; he was tired of everything. At first, Conrad was simply feeling dejected and like he'd never amount to anything. He thought he'd shake it off and get back into his research on xenotechnology and dark energy integration. Over time, however, those feelings escalated. He never told anyone. There was no point to. The thought of jumping off the edge of the Presidium started to run through his mind more than once. Only his extranet friends would noticed his absence, after all.

Then came the day he got the news. The Alliance had declared Commander Shepard dead. All of his friends apologized to him and tried to console him but instead of life falling apart his ray of hope actually returned. Instead of this news ruining him, it actually inspired him. Someone needed to take Shepard's place! Someone needed to keep Shepard's legacy alive.

That someone was Conrad Verner.

He found some really nice, convincing armor at a really decent price and then set off to SAVE THE GALAXY. Of course, he couldn't seem like a weakling to the other heroes out there. He spread lies about how he was on Commander's Shepard crew and practically the Commander's second-in-command. He was a secret operative, deep undercover, and his missions were top-level classified. He was truly "extreme."

As one might tell, Conrad was still a bit unstable at this point in his life. He began to live his lie. Really, like he had since he could remember, he just wanted to help people. However, he felt he couldn't do that by being himself. He had to model himself after the take-charge Commander Shepard he so adored. Conrad became a certified badass--or, at least, he did a damn good job acting like one--just like Commander Shepard and didn't take nothing from no one. This landed him into a whole heap of trouble on Illium that, in turn, got Shepard in hot water for being "associated" with him. However, after explaining himself and how he'd taken over the job of saving the galaxy to give people hope, the Commander helped him take down a red sand ring and save the day!

However, with Shepard now back in commission Conrad reluctantly handed back the reigns of saving the galaxy to the Commander. There was a moment when he thought he'd lose meaning in his life again. He wouldn't amount to anything. The man had done his part to help save the galaxy but what now? However, after witnessing the many families torn apart by the war on the Collectors, he decided to help in another way. With what little money he had left, the man opened and started to run a shelter for war orphans on Illium. He still entertained the idea of being out among the stars and saving the galaxy alongside the Commander, but... He was saving the galaxy's future, in his own way, and that was enough to keep him content.

HISTORY; This is every instance that Conrad appears in Mass Effect 1, 2, and 3.
Unfortunately, there was a glitch in the original game where Conrad acted in 2 as if you had gone the Renegade route and pointed a gun to his head. That glitch was only fixed with an outside program. Here are the fixed results of Conrad on the Paragon route and what I am basing his application off.

SAMPLES
FIRST PERSON; Conrad being Conrad.
Conrad is excited to join this game!
THIRD PERSON;
"I'm going to save the galaxy! I don't have time for your crap!"

This bartender, a matriarch, was a lot more stubborn than he was expecting. He had a good look. It was a great one, even! An undercover cop had told him that this establishment was the front for a red sand ring. Conrad couldn't stand for that. Red sad was illegal and, not to mention, deadly! People were losing their lives to the addiction and this place was promoting it! Since she wasn't responding to his threats, he decided to pull out his trump card.

"That's right! Anybody messing with me will answer to answer to my good friend-"

He looked over his shoulder as he heard footsteps approaching. Probably someone who would try and stop him and he would have to tousle with. The last thing he was expecting was for his eyes to fall on the one and only Commander Shepard. It took a moment for his mouth to catch up with what he was seeing. The result was a not so very eloquent

"...Commander Shepard?" He stood there, dumbfounded, but also feeling elation come over him. Shepard was alive! Shepard was alive and, oh, that was such a wonderful thing! He tried to play it cool, tried to explain why he was "acting" like the Commander, but some of his eleation slipped through. He couldn't help him! He never thought he'd see Shepard again but now that the Commander was standing right in front of him... everything in the galaxy was right again.
